3Dscapes Design Build Studio — Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why should I invest in a design plan before hiring a contractor?
A detailed 2D and 3D design plan ensures your vision is clearly communicated and executed. Without a plan, contractors often make assumptions that can lead to costly mistakes, delays, and a finished space that doesn’t match your expectations. A design plan:
Provides accurate measurements and layouts.
Helps visualize the final result before construction begins.
Prevents budget overruns, identifies potential issues early.
Allows you to compare bids fairly since all contractors work from the same blueprint.
-
What do I receive in a design package?
Depending on your project, your package may include:
2D Floor or Site plans
Elevations
3D models
Material concepts
Outdoor living integration
Construction‐ready design documents
Cost analysis ranges
Everything is created to help you make confident decisions before construction.
-
Are you architects or engineers?
We are a design studio, not licensed architects or engineers. Think of us as Design & Construction Coordinators with decades of experience collaborating closely with licensed architects, engineers, and construction professionals. This unique blend of expertise allows us to seamlessly integrate design and build knowledge, giving your project a distinct advantage. While many specialize in either design or construction, we excel at both.
Our role is to develop the complete conceptual design package — including floor plans, elevations, 3D models, and construction-ready documents — which can then be reviewed, stamped, or engineered as necessary for permitting.
This approach ensures your project progresses smoothly, efficiently, and in full legal compliance.
-
How much does an ADU or home design cost?
Design pricing depends on size, complexity, and deliverables. During your consultation, we outline:
Design scope
Timeline
Deliverables
Total investment
No surprises — everything is clear upfront.
-
Do you design ADUs?
Yes. ADUs are one of our core specialties. We design:
Detached ADUs
Attached ADUs
Garage conversions
Junior ADUs
We provide full conceptual plans, 3D models, and construction‐ready documents aligned with California ADU requirements.
-
What’s the difference between 2D and 3D design plans?
2D Plans: These are top-down layouts showing dimensions, hardscape placement, and plant locations. They’re essential for accurate construction and material estimates.
3D Renderings: These bring your design to life with realistic visuals, showing how your outdoor space will look from different angles, including textures, colors, and lighting.
-
How does a design plan save money?
By planning ahead, you avoid change orders during construction, which are often expensive. A clear design also prevents wasted materials and labor, ensuring every dollar goes toward your dream space.
-
How long does the design process take?
There are many variables. Many projects take 2–6 weeks, depending on complexity and revisions.
ADUs and home additions usually require additional time for site data, permitting and refinements. -
What if I already have a contractor?
That’s great! We can collaborate with your contractor to ensure the design is implemented correctly and efficiently.
-
Do you offer virtual & on-site consultations?
Yes! We provide convenient initial free 20-minute virtual consultations, 1hr paid virtual consultations, and on-site consultation services to discuss your goals, budget, and timeline before starting the design process.
